Mutual Respect Essential For Harmonious Society - Global Peace Foundation

For a harmonious society to exist, there must be mutual respect from all individuals

This was expressed by the Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday February 6, 2025, in a message on the World Interfaith Harmony Week 2025.

"It serves as a reminder that, despite our religious differences, we are all interconnected, and mutual respect is essential for a harmonious society.

"At Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), we uphold a value-based approach to peacebuilding through our One Family Under God campaign," the statement said.

According to the statement titled, " World Interfaith Harmony Week 2025 Theme: "Everyone Belongs – Celebrating Diversity and Fostering Belonging!" Hayab said that it is a celebration of interfaith harmony.

"Every year, from February 1 to 7, the world observes the World Interfaith Harmony Week, an initiative that emerged from a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution calling for a global celebration of interfaith harmony.

"This significant week was founded in 2010 by HM King Abdullah II and HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan with the goal of promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths," the statement added.

It explained that, " This year, in line with the theme, we are commemorating World Interfaith Harmony Week with an advocacy visit to the Kaduna State Peace Commission, alongside Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and representatives from the Hindu community.

"Our aim is to broaden the conversation on interfaith collaboration and strengthen the spirit of religious unity and cooperation.

"In Nigeria, we live side by side with our brothers, neighbors, and friends from different faith backgrounds. No matter how few or many, everyone belongs.

"It is our collective responsibility to foster a society where people of all faiths feel included, valued, and respected. We believe that partnerships with the Kaduna State Peace Commission will further advance interfaith harmony as a journey of love, peace, and respect for all humanity".

The statement said that to extend the conversation beyond their  meeting, they will continue the celebration with a live media appearance on Liberty Radio.

"We invite the Acting Executive Vice Chair of the Kaduna Peace Commission or a representative to join us in engaging with the people of Kaduna, emphasizing that we must embrace all in our shared journey of interfaith dialogue.

"As the theme reminds us, "Everyone Belongs – Celebrating Diversity and Fostering Belonging!", a message echoed in the Holy Scriptures:"And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd." – John 10:16.

" Together, let us make interfaith harmony a reality, ensuring that no one is left behind," it added.
