Interfaith Harmony: Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Kukah Center Distribute Ramadan Palliatives To 196 Households
The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), in collaboration with the Kukah Center on Wednesday March 19, 2025, distributed food items as Ramadan palliatives to 196 households in Unguwan Shanu-Abakwa and Hayin Banki wards.
The beneficiaries, comprising women from both Christian and Muslim communities, received the aid as part of efforts to foster interfaith engagement and strengthen religious harmony.
The initiative aimed at promoting peace and understanding among women of diverse ethno-religious backgrounds, particularly in communities that have previously experienced religious violence.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed mixed emotions as they reunited with long-lost friends displaced by past conflicts.
The food distribution served not only to alleviate hardship but also to bridge divides and enhance religious tolerance among women.
Speaking on behalf of the Country Director of GPFN, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the Senior Programme Manager, Mr. Abdul Ahmed, reiterated that the initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to interfaith harmony under the ideal of One Family Under God.
He emphasized that hunger and conflict know no religious boundaries, and as such, people must embrace one another irrespective of differences.
Rev. Hayab, through Mr. Ahmed, expressed that the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria remains steadfast in its mission to build bridges of understanding and cooperation among different religious and ethnic groups.
He highlighted the importance of recognizing the shared humanity of all people, stressing that initiatives like this reinforce the universal values of compassion, kindness, and solidarity.
He called on religious and community leaders to actively promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence, urging citizens to see beyond religious affiliations and instead focus on their common aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous society.
"This holy month of Ramadan provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our shared values as a people, to practice generosity, and to reinforce the bonds that unite us.
"As we break our fasts and gather with loved ones, let us also open our hearts to one another, extending kindness beyond religious lines.
"The challenges we face—whether poverty, hunger, or conflict—do not discriminate based on faith, and neither should our acts of goodwill. Let us use this season to not only nourish our bodies but also strengthen the spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence in our communities.
"Together, we can build a society where mutual respect and cooperation become the foundation for lasting peace," he said.
Mr. Ahmed further encouraged beneficiaries to share their blessings by extending their generosity to others in need, reminding them that true peace is nurtured when communities support one another.
He reaffirmed GPFN’s commitment to peacebuilding, especially by prioritizing women as primary caregivers and influential voices in fostering harmony within families and communities.
Similarly, the Executive Director of the Kukah Center, Fr. Sistus Onuh, lauded the initiative and commended GPFN’s dedication to supporting vulnerable women.
He urged the beneficiaries to embrace peaceful coexistence and use the Ramadan period as an opportunity to pray for unity and national stability.
Fr. Onuh reaffirmed Kukah Center’s commitment to working with GPFN in advancing peace and unity across communities.
This collaborative effort highlights the crucial role of women in peacebuilding and showcases the importance of interfaith initiatives in fostering lasting social cohesion in Nigeria.
