NEMA Completes Distribution Of 24,302 KSrelief Food Baskets To Vulnerable Households In Five States



The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has successfully concluded the distribution of 24,302 food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to vulnerable households in Yobe, Benue, Kebbi, Anambra and Taraba States.


The humanitarian intervention, which was flagged off by the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, on Thursday, 18th June, 2026, in Damaturu, Yobe State, was completed through direct distribution to profiled vulnerable households across the beneficiary states.


A statement signed by Manzo Ezekiel on behalf of the Press Unit, NEMA, Abuja, dated  July 23,  2026, said that  a total of 6,403 food baskets were distributed in Benue State, 6,000 in Yobe State, 4,399 in Kebbi State, 4,000 in Anambra State and 3,500 in Taraba State, bringing the total number of distributed food baskets to 24,302.


Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Mrs. Zubaida Umar described the donation as another demonstration of the strong humanitarian partnership between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through KSrelief.


The Director General noted that the intervention would provide much-needed support to vulnerable households while complementing ongoing humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating hardship among populations affected by disasters, conflicts, climate-related emergencies and economic challenges.


She also used the occasion to remind communities of the heightened flood risk during the rainy season, urging residents to clear drainage channels, avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways, relocate from highly flood-prone areas where necessary, and comply with early warning advisories issued by relevant authorities. She further advised parents to ensure that children do not play in floodwaters or around erosion-prone areas during periods of heavy rainfall.


Mrs. Zubaida Umar reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to improving the welfare of citizens and strengthening support for vulnerable populations across the country.


She urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the food items and expressed optimism that the intervention would provide relief and comfort to their households.


Speaking on behalf of KSrelief, the Centre's representative, Mr. Majeed Alanazi, said the donation was in line with the Centre's humanitarian mandate of providing assistance to vulnerable populations around the world. He noted that the intervention reflects KSrelief's commitment to humanitarian solidarity and continued support for the people of Nigeria.


With the successful completion of the exercise, all 24,302 food baskets have now been delivered directly to identified vulnerable households in the five beneficiary states, providing timely relief and reinforcing the enduring humanitarian partnership between NEMA and KSrelief.

Customs FOU Zone ‘B’ Cracks Down On Smugglers Of Endangered Species

*Unit intercepts live pangolins along Kano–Jigawa axis The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’, has intercepted two live pangolins being illegally transported along the Kano–Jigawa axis.   This was disclosed in a statement signed by the  CPRO  FOU Zone B, CSC NA Saidu, made available on Tuesday.   It informed that the arrest occurred on March 12, 2026 at about 10:00 hours. Operatives of the Unit, during a stop-and-search operation, flagged down the vehicle as part of a proactive enforcement sweep.   The seizure was effected pursuant to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), an international agreement that prohibits trade threatening the survival of wild species.   Upon interception, the animals were secured in appropriate cages and conveyed to the FOU Zone ‘B’ headquarters in Kaduna.
