Tinubu Lauded for Upholding AGF’s Tenure Amid Alleged Moves to Displace Her
A civil society group, NWPA, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for his decision to allow the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, to complete her tenure despite alleged moves to oust her.
Speaking in Abuja, NWPA spokesperson Mrs. Christine Ezekwe criticized what she termed as "relentless campaigns to prematurely remove the AGF." She described the actions as a desperate attempt by some to destabilize the office.
The group noted that Madein’s refusal to proceed on terminal leave, which is optional, has been falsely portrayed in the media. Ezekwe pointed out that past public officials, including the immediate past Head of Service, Dr. Yemi-Esan, served until their official retirement dates without controversy.
In the words of Mrs Ezekwe , “when has routine posting become a crime that posting A Director to a strategic institute where public servants are trained, molded into professional bureaucrats became a witch hunt? We are very sure that Mr Shamselden Babatunde Ogunjimi was giving an assigned responsibility to impact on the system, groom civil servants for effective service delivery and contribute his quota to the development of the country ”
“Claiming that the accountant General did not proceed on terminal leave is a desperation whose purpose time and season would uncover. we are all here a few months ago when our beloved sister and the immediate past Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Yemi-Esan stayed in the office peacefully until her retirement date. Why did this group of desperadoes not sponsor media reports then?”
“With three months to the retirement of Mrs Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as Accountant General of the Federation those longing to occupy her position as their life time dreams should show a strong sense of maturity by waiting patiently for her to exit before they can takeover the position, if appointed ”
The group appealed to the Accountant General to remember she is an ambassador of the Nigerian woman and go about her duty passionately to actualise the dreams of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to give renewed hope to Nigerians in line with his renewed agenda.
NWPA also dismissed allegations that Madein victimized a Director, Mr. Ogunjimi, by transferring him to a training institute. "Routine postings are an integral part of public service administration and should not be misconstrued," Ezekwe added.
The group reaffirmed its support for Madein and urged her to focus on implementing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, calling on detractors to exercise patience and maturity.
