Tragic Deaths: Arewa Youth Forum Consoles Kano, Niger States Govts
The Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) has expressed sadness over the recent loss of lives in Mokwa Niger State and the tragic accident that claimed 22 athletes returning back from Gateway Games in Kano State.
This was expressed in a statement signed by the AYF National President, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Zagi, made available to our correspondent yesterday.
"It is with profound sadness and concern that we, the Council and Members of Arewa Youth Forum, received the news of the recent flood disaster that ravaged Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
'The devastating flood has caused loss of lives, destruction of properties, and displacement of many residents," it said.
The group therefore, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the good people of Niger State.
"We pray that Almighty Allah grants the departed souls Jannatul Firdaus and gives their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss," it prayed.
They commended the Niger State Government, led by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, on the action expedited with regards to provision of humanitarian assistance to the flood victims.
"We also commend the Federal Government for sending the Presidential envoy to the affected area. This combined efforts will undoubtedly go a long way to provide succor and respite to the victims.
"We call on all well-meaning Nigerians, particularly the youth of the Northern extraction, to stand in solidarity with the affected communities and the Niger State Government during this difficult time. We urge the government to develop a long-term plan to prevent such disasters in the future, including the construction of dams, drainage systems, and other infrastructure.
"May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may their families find strength and comfort in the wake of this tragedy. We pray for the speedy recovery of those affected and for the government to take necessary steps to prevent such disasters in the futur," it said.
In a related development, AYF said that is with profound shock and sadness that they, received the news of the tragic accident that occurred in Kano State.
"The accident claimed the lives of 22 young athletes from Kano State who were returning from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
'We extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the departed athletes as well as the good people of Kano. We pray that Almighty Allah grants them Jannatul Firdaus and gives their families strength
"We at Arewa Youth Forum appreciate the swift response of the Kano State and top-notch medical care for the injured survivors.
"We also commend the gesture of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who have offered their condolences and support.
"We equally call on al wel-meaning Nigerians, particularly the youth of the Northern extraction, to stand in solidarity with the bereaved familes and the Kano State Government during this difficult times, May Allah Grant Us Peace
