Arewa Group Blasts Adeyanju, Defends Northern Ministers Against "Ghost" Claims
A northern socio-political group, the Coalition of Arewa Young Professionals, has issued a stinging rebuke to activist Deji Adeyanju, describing his recent claims that three northern ministers are "ghosts" as "reckless," "uninformed," and "dangerously divisive."
The group's National Chairman, Umar Magaji Esq, in a strongly-worded statement on Thursday, demanded a public retraction and apology from Adeyanju, a lawyer, whose comments he said were devoid of the fact-checking expected from a legal practitioner.
The rebuttal comes in response to Adeyanju's allegations which targeted the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; and the Minister of Environment, Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal.
Magaji lambasted Adeyanju, accusing him of being a "regional bigot hiding under the banner of activism to promote ethnic divisiveness and hatred."
The group proceeded to list what it described as "monumental achievements" of the three ministers to counter the "ghost" label.
For Senator Bagudu the coalition cited four consecutive quarters of GDP growth, a stabilized foreign exchange market, and his role as the "architect" of bold reforms like the fuel subsidy removal and forex market unification.
Regarding Ambassador Tuggar the group highlighted his 4D Foreign Policy framework, his success in securing the return of over 22 Benin Bronzes from Germany, and his active representation of Nigeria on global stages like the UN and AU.
In defence of Mallam Lawal the statement pointed to his progress on the Ogoni clean-up project, the distribution of over 45 million seedlings in a national afforestation campaign, and the restoration of 350,000 hectares of degraded land through the ACReSAL project and execution of over 70 visible projects across northwestern states
The statement took a confrontational turn by questioning Adeyanju's motive for what it called "selective, biased outrage."
The group accused him of ignoring the perceived failures of ministers from other regions, specifically naming the Minister of Power over repeated national grid collapses and the Minister of Interior for recently increasing passport fees.
"Is it because this Minister is not from the North?" Umar Magaji asked regarding the Power Minister. "Is it because this Minister is his tribesman?" he queried concerning the Interior Minister.
"This silence on the glaring failures of ministers from other regions... exposes his malicious intent. It is the cheapest form of ethnic baiting," the statement read.
Concluding, the group warned that it would not stand idly by while "ethnic bigots attempt to undermine the hard work of dedicated public servants and sow division in our country."
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Deji Adeyanju had not issued a public response to the allegations made by the Coalition.
